Congregation B'nai Israel

As Sacramento’s oldest Jewish congregation and its largest Reform synagogue, B’nai Israel is devoted to honoring the traditions of our heritage while creating a Jewish experience that is relevant to today’s society. We nurture spirituality and personal reflection through prayer, music, education and social action. We foster friendship and community with Shabbat dinners, ritual events and affinity groups that reflect our diversity. Congregation B’nai Israel welcomes families and singles, young and old, gay and straight.

Look at the community section of this web site to learn more about our groups for women, men, teenagers, young adults, senior citizens, singles and interfaith couples. This is also where you can find out how to get involved in our social action efforts or join a Chavurah.

Planning a wedding, bris or other life-cycle event?  Looking for information on Holidays or Shabbat services? You’ll find answers in the worship section.

Our spiritual leader is Rabbi Mona Alfi.  You can learn more about her and other temple leaders in the about section, where you will also find information on B’nai Israel’s nearly 160-year history and our newly renovated sanctuary.

The best way to experience B’nai Israel, of course, is in person.  Please look at the calendar for details on the spiritual, educational and fun events we host. And then come check us out.

Let's celebrate Estelle Opper for her loving dedication to Congregation B'nai Israel with an exciting event on January 30, 2010. Click here for details. Also, see the tribute book form here.

The 13th Annual Jewish Film Festival is February 6th and 7th, 2010. Click here for the details.

Parent's Night Out - Drop off the kid(s) and go out for dinner, Second Saturday, a movie ... and help the Confirmation Class too! February 13, 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Click here to view the flyer.

"Becky's New Car" at the B Street Theatre - Plan now for the B Street Theatre's performance of "Becky's New Car", a comedy, benefitting the Confirmation Class Israel Trip. March 21; time TBA.
